Best steak knives in 2019 Review And Buying Guide | Remarkinfo

Best steak knives in 2018 Review And Buying Guide: Knife sets are not only fundamental kitchenware for every household but also a distinguished present for a wedding, birthday, holiday or graduation. Knife sets are collectible, hold their value, and have great utility. The question remains though, which one should you buy? There are so many options to choose from, and each set can say something different. So I looked at several different sets and evaluated them based on what they may or may not be great for.

Things To Consider:

There are just a few things to consider while shopping for the best knife set. The number one consideration, of course, is who is the knife set for? For example, if the knife set is for yourself, think about what type of cooking you do; how do you usually prepare your steaks and other meats? Baked meats will cut differently than grilled meats, baked meats tend to be more tender if they are cooked to medium, and are easier to cut. If a gift is for someone who eats their steaks well done, a set that is sharper will be needed. Think about how much space is available. If there isn’t room for a huge steak knife set, you can skip the fancy stuff. If your household has six people in it, you will probably need a set that has more knives than a family of two.

How I Made My Selections:

This list is very subjective but should help one decide what they need. I considered pros such as overall versatility of the knife set, the practicality, the price, in addition to safety, reviews, rank and other smaller considerations. and considered cons like heavyweight or using too much space to make for a practical present or gift.

Top 10 Best steak knives Review :

1.DALSTRONG Steak Knives Set – Gladiator Series – German HC Steel – w/Sheath

1.DALSTRONG Steak Knives Set - Gladiator Series - German HC

This is Amazon’s 13th best selling knife set. It comes with a set of four. It is advertised as optimal for one’s own home or as a wonderful gift. It would be great for home use in my opinion. The knives have several special features and received hundreds of positive reviews throughout the internet. They are made from high-carbon German steel, are triple-riveted (meaning they are harder to damage) and my favorite is their overall design: they are round tipped for safety, and serrated so that no sharpening has to do be done. The fact that they come with sheaths makes them practical for the drawer, and they will use up no counter space. At 1.9 pounds per set, these certainly hit the mark for being lightweight.

The cons are that there really isn’t any versatility in this set. It is very straightforward, here are four knives, and four sheaths to go with them. For the price, one might be expecting a little more. There isn’t an option for a Dalstrong knife block specifically for this set, so there is little sense of decor, which makes the set hard to use as a gift, as advertised. Still, even with these very few cons considered, the rest checks out. Dalstrong is a well-known knife distributor, and I have no doubt that they would be great for anybody’s practical use. If you are looking for something with more uses than just cutting steak at the table, or if you are setting a table for a 5-star experience, this might not be the set you are looking for.

2.J.A. Henckels International Stainless Steel 8-Piece Steak Knife Set

I am really excited to talk about this set because it is really one of my favorites. They are very affordable. The set comes with 8 knives, making them a must-have for larger families. Unlike knives that are constructed with metal and a glossed handle, making them two parts, these knives are all metal, meaning there is absolutely no risk of the handle breaking off while cutting a particularly rough part of any steak. They are serrated for durability, sleek in design, will not use up counter space, though, with 8 knives, they will use up some drawer space. They are very lightweight, at 1.5 pounds per set, which could help them be versatile enough to cut veggies as well. This is the quintessential basic steak knife set. Great for a BBQ or grill-out where less sharp knives are available for children.

The set is not perfect, though. The packaging just doesn’t hold up for what is required for a gift, in my estimation. There are no sheath or block options, so they have to be stored in a drawer. The tip is not rounded off, which, though it makes them more versatile, also makes them more dangerous; I probably would not let children under 10 use these.

3.Wusthof 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift Box

Wusthof 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak

Now we’re getting into gift territory! These were extremely highly rated throughout the internet. The rosewood box is sharp, no pun intended. It has a sleek design, probably a little too masculine for a wedding present, but certainly still considerable. This knife set is much more traditional than the prior two I’ve considered. The knives themselves are made with 18/10 forced high carbon steel. Each knife is constructed of one piece of metal. The blade itself, without heavy serration, may have to be sharpened occasionally depending on if the knives are used frequently or only on special events. The lack of heavy serration actually makes these knives very versatile in the kitchen. If desired, the knives can certainly be stored in a drawer if the box is wanted for something else. The set with the box is definitely meant to be used both as decor and for showcasing. The weight of each boxed set is 3 pounds, making it slightly heavier.

All the things that make this a gift set are what make for cons in the store-them-in-your-drawer sets. The knives are larger and heavier, may need to be sharpened, and are meant to take up space. The price, though reasonable, is still more than what would be paid for a basic set. They are sharp-tipped, so there is a safety concern, especially if there are kids and the box is left out.

4.Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife Block Set with In-Block Knife Sharpener

Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 18-Piece Knife

It seems the only thing missing from this knife set is the cutting board. Included is a nice, chic block made out of cherry wood (something the site surprisingly doesn’t mention) with a built-in sharpening unit. 8 non-serrated knives, 2 papers, one boning, a serrated bread knife (although only seven inches in length), a 7-inch Santoku knife, a Chef’s knife, a slicer, and one pair of shears. So there is no question of this set’s versatility. It may seem expensive, but when one considers how much would be paid for each part individually, this is actually an awesome deal, so I can’t complain about the price. This set could probably be used in your own home or as a very nice gift for a special occasion.

There are some cons. The set is pretty heavy at 12.7 pounds. There is just no way to fit this in a drawer, no two ways about it; one would need an entire cupboard. The blades are obscured by the block itself, but it does have very sharp tools in it, so it gets a medium rank from me in terms of safety. The price might just be too overwhelming for some.

5.Victorinox Cutlery 6-Piece 4-1/2-Inch Wavy Edge with Round Tip Steak Knife Set, Black

5-Victorinox Cutlery

The product’s reviewers have rated it very highly. The proof this set is obvious: it was made with safety and utility in mind. The knives are round-tipped with light serrations that are described as being “wavy.” The handles are made with NSF-approved black polypropylene handles, which means they will work well with sticky, greasy, oily fingers. The set comes in what looks like a plastic preparation which could lend themselves to being a gift, but these are more likely meant for home use, with a family that has kids. At 8 oz., this is the lightest weight knife set reviewed.

Now the cons. One can’t help but get the feeling that this set is overpriced because of the novelty of where they are made: Switzerland. Swiss knives are known for their utility, and though these knives reach that standard, it’s hard to justify the price. The split handle could make the knife prone to breaking and possibly rusting. This is a set meant for people with brand familiarity.

  1. Victorinox 4-3/4-Inch Straight-Edge Pointed-Tip Steak Knife, Set of 6, Rosewood Handles

  2. 6,,,,Victorinox

The major difference between this set and the other set mentioned by the same company is a price. This the highest price per item offered. The knives are non-serrated, making them more versatile, but also making the need for purchasing a sharpener a must. Chances are, if one is willing to pay for the set, they can probably afford to spring for the sharpener as well. The Rosewood adds to the sleekness of design in the handle but makes them far easier to break. The warranty offered is limited. There are no options available for sheaths or a wood block. The set is not packaged in a way that would make a great gift, which is surprising considering the cost. At 12 ounces, these are also very lightweight offerings by the Swiss army knife maker.

The knives are sharp-tipped and easily breakable, making them unsafe. The is a component of versatility and practicality of these knives, the price doesn’t justify that. Recommendable for people who like rosewood and consider it a collector’s item, and for, once again, brand loyalty.

7.Rada Cutlery Serrated Steak Knife Set – Stainless Steel Knives With Aluminum Handles, Set of 6

7-Rada Cutlery Serrated Steak Knife Set –

These knives seem like a steal. They are packaged in a way that lends them as either gift or for regular household use. Using aluminum will make these knives weigh less, at 5.6 ounces, but makes them very prone to rust. Under no circumstance should they be put in a dishwasher or left in a full sink for very long. As a unique extra, the handles are brushed with silver, which has been shown to have anti-bacterial activity, which leads to safety. Because of the knives unique Bowie-like shape, it is very easy to see these being used for more than just as steak knives.

It is hard to beat the price. While the design lends itself to added versatility, it also makes them less safe. Safety is still in the medium 50/50 area for me, because of the potential antibiotic component of the silver brushing. That, along with the potential for rust are things to consider. These are also almost too lightweight. There is less leverage with a knife that doesn’t weigh enough, you can start to lose leverage over the piece of meat you are trying to cut. but overall, for the price, these are beautiful knives.

8.Cutco #1865 4-Pc. Table Knife Set in Gift Box (Classic black handle)Cutco #1865 4-Pc. Table Knife Set in Gift Box

This four-piece set does not look to be meant as a gift, even if it is advertised that way. It was a little difficult to find reviews for this product, though they mostly seem to be positive. The knives are two parts, high carbon stainless steel, round-tipped blade and a thermo-resin handle. The pros are that the knives are practical, utilitarian and safe. I would trust a child to be able to use these without risk of hurting themselves. These knives could easily stand in for a butter or salad knife, making them an optimal table knife. The reputation of these knives precedes them, and perhaps that is enough to make one a buyer of this set.

The drawbacks are fairly obvious: the price and the design. Even if I had the money to haplessly spend on four steak knives, this may not the brand or the knife I would turn to. The design, though very unique in the world of knives, also reminds me of a surgical scalpel, not necessarily the image I want in my head while eating dinner. Also, the knife is constructed of two separate parts.

9.Tyrellex Steak Knives | Premium Steak Knife Set (6 Pieces an  Wood Gift Box)

Tyrellex Steak Knives Premium -Best steak knives

This set is ranked #98 on Amazon for steak sets. The wooden gift box looks a bit more simple than the other gift box featured in my reviews, but this set is also $20 cheaper. The knives are made from stainless steel and red pakkawood, and really, genuinely, look very elegant. Unlike the other set reviewed, there isn’t a clear necessity of needing the box once the gift is given. The type of wood used for the box is not indicated, and, in fact, is not the same color as the pakkawood used for the handles of the knives. If you want to buy someone a nice present, but don’t have over $100, I would highly recommend these, as they are certainly statement pieces.

The knives are sharp tipped, making them more dangerous, though if stored in a drawer, or in the box, the risk to small children may be minimized. The knives don’t seem to really serve any other purpose other than being a steak knife set, so there isn’t much versatility. The fact that the knives are constructed of two parts usually vexes me, there isn’t much of an issue.

10.Chicago Cutlery #B144/1104670 4-Piece Walnut Tradition Steak Knife Set

Chicago Cutlery #B1441104670 4-Piec

Chicago Cutlery has once again proven that they are an affordable company considering what is being offered. This set gives what most households without children would want in steak knives, with a classic, beautiful, full tang design, made with the notable walnut wood. The knives are not serrated, so they could easily be used for food preparation as well as on the table. They are made of dense carbon stainless steel and have a full warranty. They would store easily in a drawer and are lightweight, at 11.2 ounces. they received pretty high marks from knife set reviewers. They hit all of the major positive points, and there really aren’t very many cons.

The main standout con of this set is that it is manufactured in China. Though this is not necessarily a negative for me, many people have reasons for wanting quality products made where the name implies. Chicago Cutlery does not try to hide the fact that they are made in China, it is mentioned three times on the Amazon page, and at the top of many of the reviews, I read for this article. The knives are sharp tipped, making them less safe.

Conclusion

There were a few other sets I looked at, including Amazon’s #1 bestseller, which was made by the Amazon company itself. They looked cheaply made, easily breakable, though a warranty was offered. They were pennies cheaper than Chicago Cutlery. In fact, the biggest determiner of sales seemed to be quantity and price over quality and durability. I can’t say that I haven’t been guilty of that myself, though I will usually spring for a higher end product for a gift.

The clear winner was set #3: Wusthof 8-Piece Stainless-Steel Steak Knife Set with Wooden Gift Box with 9 points, the clear least scoring set was #6 Victorinox 4-3/4-Inch Straight-Edge Pointed-Tip Steak Knife, Set of 6, Rosewood Handles.

A look at all the scores is near the top of the article, in the spreadsheet, there were many runner-ups and a couple low scorers.
